homemade pizza dough with a bread machine

My family loves pizza! My husband grew up with a family tradition of pizza every Sunday night after church. Since Sunday nights are hard for us with AWANAs, we started Friday night pizza. Most of the time we go with homemade pizza dough, and using my bread machine makes it so easy.

I have tried lots of pizza dough recipes over the years and enjoyed many of them. Right now I use a recipe right out of the first cookbook I ever received. It is so easy and delicious! I place all the ingredients into my $5 bread-maker from Goodwill and leave it for 2 hours and I have the perfect pizza dough ready to create any pizza we want. If you want to try a bread machine this is Amazon’s choice.

How to make the dough

  1. Pour yeast into your bread machine. My machine always calls for yeast first, but check your manual to verify your machine’s order.
  2. Add flour first, then salt, and sugar on top of the yeast.
  3. Now pour your wet ingredients in: milk, oil, and water
  4. Set your machine to manual mode so it does not begin to cook your dough.
  5. After the cycle is complete turn dough out on to a floured surface and cut dough in half.
  6. Roll dough out to 12-14 inches depending on the size of your pan.
  7. Add toppings of your choice
  8. Bake at 400° F for convection or 425° conventional for 13-15 minutes or until it is beginning to turn golden brown and cheese is bubbling.

Pizza recipes

My crew loves pepperoni pizza, so typically we stick with it. But lately, Eric and I have been trying some different kinds to change things up. This is our BBQ Pizza recipe. Be watching for our Taco Pizza and Sausage, Onion, and Pepper Pizza recipe that we loved!

Getting the kids involved

It is so tempting to not let the kids be involved. They slow my process down and want to taste everything multiple times. I’m working hard to let them be more involved in the process. They have so much fun and it makes our pizza nights more special when I let them play a part.

Bread Machine Pizza Dough

This is my go-to recipe for pizza dough. I love throwing all the ingredients into the bread machine and not having to worry about it for 2 hours. It came right from the first cookbook my dad gave me, Better Homes and Gardens.

In the winter, we play games or watch a movie after our pizza. In the summertime, we head back outside for a couple more hours of fun. Does your family have weekly traditions? If so, we would love to hear about them in the comments below.
