When I think of the most influential mother in history, Mary the mother of Jesus is the first one to come to mind. I could not even begin to understand how she felt knowing she was going to be giving birth to God’s only Son. She would become his earthly mother and she willingly excepted that role with no hesitation.
Luke 1:35-38 (ESV)
35 And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God. 36 And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. 37 For nothing will be impossible with God.” 38 And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.
Mary’s faith and obedience is what helped her not only survive in her new role but thrive in it as well. She was an excellent example of what it looks like to be completely devoted to Christ. This song is my favorite Christmas song and has been for several years now. It helps me keep my eyes focused on where they should be during this Christmas season: Christ.
