It’s hard to believe the 2010s are behind us and the 2020s are in full force. This past decade started with me in the middle of my sophomore year of high school and ended with me married with one child and another on the way. It’s crazy how much can change over a decade!
Uh The beginning of a new decade or year is the most common time to start setting goals. Although I usually don’t set goals for myself, due to a history of being unable to accomplish those said goals, this year I decided to go for it. I have set five realistic, attainable goals for 2020. In setting these goals, I do realize that some circumstances are simply outside of my control and may impact my ability to accomplish these goals. Whether I accomplish them or not, I’m happy I have something to work towards.
Goal #1: Read Through the New Testament in One Year
I was debating whether or not to make my goal for 2020 to read through the whole bible or just the new testament. Since I have a new baby on the way, I decided it would be more realistic to read through the new testament. Also, as I will have less to read, I can take my time reading the scriptures and really meditate on what I am reading. I’m excited to work towards this goal in the upcoming year.
Goal #2: Read a Daily Devotional w/ My Daughter
In addition to reading through the new testament, I also want to make it a habit to read through a daily devotional geared towards young children with my two-year-old daughter. I want to encourage her love of reading and desire to know God better. Here is the devotional I plan on reading with her! I can’t wait to bond with my daughter in this way!
Goal #3: No Social Media Sundays
I went for years without signing into my Facebook account or Instagram account, but ever since we have started this blog, avoiding social media has become nearly impossible. I find myself checking my accounts several times a day and am afraid it is going to become an even bigger distraction as time goes on. So, in an effort to stop this time-waster in its tracks, I am going to have a strict no social media on Sundays rule for goal #2. I will not post or even check my social media accounts on Sundays.
Goal #4: Monthly Lunch Dates W/ A Friend
I have learned the hard way how important self-care is, especially for moms. My goal is to reach out to a different friend every month and plan a lunch date with them. It will be a time for me to relax, enjoy myself, and have some much-needed adult conversation. While these lunch dates won’t always get to be childfree, they will still be meaningful.
Goal #5: No Store-bought Iced Coffees
I am setting this as one of my goals for 2020 for a couple of different reasons. For starters, this year will involve me being pregnant and nursing, so the extra caffeine and sugar in my diet will not be healthy for me nor my baby. Also, I think there are better uses of my money. Even if I only treat myself to an iced coffee once a week, we are looking at over $250 a year! Instead, I will save that money and treat myself to a shopping spree to update my wardrobe at the end of the year. Woot, woot!
