As a new mom, I was so not prepared for a “blow out” or how often they would occur. I’m embarrassed to admit how many onesies I threw away. My mom was horrified when she found out that I tossed them regularly. Now, on baby number 5 I feel I have a pretty good plan for beating the yellow stains.
For the best results, the soiled clothing needs to be rinsed off as soon as possible in cold water. If I am not able to deal with the outfit right away, I throw it in a bucket or sink of cold water. Sometimes, I forget about it or do not have time to get to the outfit till the next day, as long as it is sitting in the cold water it really isn’t a big deal to wait.
My mother-in-law suggested I get Fels-Naptha soap. It costs under $3. I got it years ago and I have barely made a dent in the bar. After soaking, or rinsing the clothes in cold water, rub the bar of soap all over anywhere there is a stain and then toss the clothes into the wash along with the rest of your laundry.
The key to stain free clothes
The sun! After going through the washing cycle, normally there is still a light yellow stain still on my baby’s clothes. Don’t throw it in the drier. While it is still wet lay it out in the sun or hang it on the clothesline. It’s amazing! Most of the time it totally removes the rest of the stain.
